The Messiah by Ann Elaine Broughton

“The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I who speak to you am he” (John 4:25-26 NIV).

Several years ago I sang in “The Messiah”, a musical oratorio written by Handel. “The Messiah” is a musical masterpiece that proclaims Jesus from birth until the resurrection using biblical references. As I sang I felt goose bumps run all over my body as the words declaring the Messiah’s birth resonated through the room. The long awaited Son of God is born. Then the music moved on to His death. He was bruised for our iniquities, chastised, and wounded for our transgressions. By his stripes we are healed. Then the Hallelujah chorus declares that Jesus will reign forever. When the king heard this chorus he was so moved by it that he stood to his feet and that is why everyone rises when it is sung today. And what a wonderful chorus it is. Hallelujah, our Savior reigns forever and ever. I get goose bumps just thinking about it. What a wonderful Messiah!
What can this Messiah or the Anointed One do for you? Messiah is a Hebrew word which when translated into Greek means Christ. Both words mean the Anointed One or one who is especially appointed by God for His plan and purpose. God had a plan for Jesus from the time He was born, just as He has a plan for you and I. Jesus fulfilled that plan when He was nailed to the cross for our sins and rose from the dead. Now this Messiah lives forever and offers that to you and me. What have you done with this Messiah? Have you given your life for His purpose? Do you live to do His will every moment of your Life? Life is so short and it is so important to realize that your Messiah is a prayer away and that to do His will is the most important life focus you can ever have.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the Messiah and all He did for us on this earth. We cannot repay all the pain and anguish He felt on the cross, but we can give our lives as living sacrifices to do His will. Help us to fulfill your purpose for us here on this earth.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
